Mi ausencia en las redes sociales más comunes.

Hace poco mas de dos años desde que cerré los perfiles que tenía en las apps Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp y Twitter (X), sin remordimientos y con algunas interesantes experiencias.

Dentro de las actividades de diseñador gráfico (freelance), habiendo experimentado en las apps desde su inicio el auge cuando apenas habíamos un par de cientos de integrantes, sobre todo en lo que una vez fue Instagram, con la satisfacción que tenía de almacenar fotografías digitales, algunas de ellas con algo de elaboración y efectos mínimos, en vez del revelado de los rollos y tener la foto en físico, las transiciones iban mostrando cada vez más relevancia y el desenvolvimiento de lo que como comunidad se iba formando en las plataformas, lo cual era muy interesante y productivo en mi caso…

Todo comenzó a cambiar radicalmente durante los años 2017 y 2021 para mí. Facebook comenzaba a hacerse dudoso, Instagram con sus historias comenzaba a presenciarse como una especie de TV con sus videos cortos, a robar más tiempo con sus «distrac- /atrac-ciones» generadas por algoritmos, cada vez aparecía más publicidad. De manera similar WhatsApp: de pronto personas que tenía en alguna agenda digital, empezaban a comunicarse inesperadamente, todo porque la app hace uso de identificadores de vínculo por medio de los números telefónicos asignados a cada usuario. El problema en esto, además de la insistencia en invadir la privacidad, comencé a notar que poco de la comunicación se tomaba en serio por parte de otros usuarios, asimismo, notaba yo un descontrol por el ingreso de toda clase de usuarios, la mayoría informales. La afectación era tolerable.  Adicional, tras actualizaciones y aceptación de cláusulas con descripciones misteriosas para la utilización de las apps, cada vez se iban poniendo más extrañas las plataformas para mí, más imvasivas en cuanto a la privacidad.

Con la app ya instalada en mi dispositivo desde años atrás, sobre todo para uso interno en mis inmobiliarios y uso esporádico con una disminuida cantidad de usuarios, a inicios del 2018 comenzaba yo más a enfocarme en Telegram, a reconocer la agilidad de su funcionamiento, a conocer y observar cómo superaba las demás apps anteriormente mencionadas en variados aspectos.

Durante el 2019 e inicios del 2022 iba yo notando extrema censura, restricciones, manipulación, mentiras implantadas al por mayor por medio de los posts acerca de temas que los usuarios «debíamos» ver, más no sobre lo que deseábamos realmente informarnos o lo que individualmente me interesaba. El contenido relevante a lo que era en un principio el supuesto sentido de formar parte en las comunidades para lo que según habían sido puestas las apps a disponibilidad de los usuarios, iba desapareciendo, estaba siendo reprimido. Peor aún, dado que tuve que confrontar un traslado masivo en relación a mi estabilidad y sedentarismo a inicios del 2022, habiendo yo recibido el trato más vil en areas de transporte y aeropuertos nunca antes visto durante traslados o viajes, pude observar el grado de expansión y a todo lo que había llegado la situación gracias a las más comunes redes sociales. 

Se iba poniendo peor. Yo formaba parte incluso, como usuario, de lo que algún tiempo fue la plataforma Twitter, también desde sus inicios –conocer el funcionamiento, aprender a dispersar material gráfico, informática y comunicación a través de las redes sociales, iban desde un principio «de la mano» con mis estudios y diplomado en la materia de Diseño Gráfico Multimedia–. La app la utilizaba esporádicamente para  informarme de manera más universal acerca de lo que sucedía en el mundo de la política,  las finanzas y para interactuar por medio de una interfaz de usuario bastante intuitiva. De pronto, casi a inicios del 2023, la intuitiva interfaz de usuario comenzó con limitaciones, a cobrar para ciertas funciones. Y poco después surgió el «cambio de dueño» donde incluso adoptó el nombre actual, el cual considero desagradable y sin sentido. Decidí cerrar los perfiles que usaba yo allí como empresa y el personal.

Tras mi prolongado estudio acerca de Bitcoin, criptomonedas y lo anterior mencionado, el 17 de septiembre de 2023 ingresé a la plataforma Nostr, el protocolo y ecosistema descentralizado, parte de las DeSoc’s (Redes Sociales Decentralizadas), el cual funge de cierto modo un tanto rudimentario, pero cubre todo lo que yo consideré relevante en Instagram, Facebook y Twitter durante algún tiempo. No invade la privacidad y no existe el algoritmo. En paralelo continúo familiarizado con la app Telegram, la cual utilizo convincentemente de manera productiva y creativa, sin la necesidad de buscar WhatsApp.  Por cierto, ›te invito a que eches un vistazo a uno de mis posts más recientes en Nostr.‹

My absence from mainstream social media

It’s been a little over two years since I closed the profiles I had with Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Twitter (X) apps, without regrets and with some interesting experiences.

Within the activities of a graphic designer (freelance), having experienced in the apps from the beginning the boom when we were barely a couple of hundred members, especially in what was once Instagram, with the satisfaction I had of storing and sharing digital photographs, some of them with some elaboration and minimal effects, instead of developing the rolls and having the photo in physical form, the transitions were showing more and more relevance and the development of what as a community was forming on the platforms, which was very interesting and productive in my case.

Everything began to change radically during the years 2017 and 2021 for me. Facebook was starting to become dubious, Instagram with its stories was beginning to be seen as a kind of TV with its short videos, stealing more time with its “distrac-/attrac-tions” generated by algorithms, and more and more advertising was appearing. Similarly, WhatsApp: suddenly people I had in some digital address book began to communicate unexpectedly, all because the app makes use of link identifiers through the phone numbers assigned to each user. The problem with this, in addition to the insistence on invading privacy, I began to notice that the communication was taken poorly by other users, likewise, I noticed a lack of control due to the entry of all kinds of users, most of them informal. The impact was tolerable. Additionally, after updates and acceptance of clauses with mysterious descriptions for the use of the apps, the platforms were becoming increasingly strange to me, more invasive in terms of privacy.

With the app already installed on my device for years, mainly for internal use in my real estate and sporadic use with a small number of other users, at the beginning of 2018 I began to focus more on Telegram, to recognise the agility of its operation, to learn and observe how it surpassed the other apps previously mentioned in various aspects.

During 2019 and early 2022, I was noticing extreme censorship, restrictions, manipulation, and lies implanted wholesale through posts about topics that users “should” see, but not about what we really wanted to learn about or what interested me individually. The content relevant to what was originally the supposed meaning of being part of the communities for which the apps had been made available to users, was disappearing, it was being repressed. Worse still, given that I had to confront a massive transfer in relation to my stability and sedentary lifestyle at the beginning of 2022, having received the most vile treatment in transportation areas and airports never seen before during transfers or trips, I was able to observe the degree of expansion and everything that the situation had reached thanks to most common social networks.

It was getting worse. I was even part as a user of what was once the Twitter platform, also from the beginning –knowing how it worked, learning how to disperse graphic material, IT and communication trough social networks, went from the beginning “hand in hand” with my studies and diploma in Multimedia Graphic Design. I used the app sporadically to inform myself in a more universal way about politics, finance and to interact through a fairly intuitive user interface. Suddenly, almost at the beginning of 2023, the intuitive user interface began with limitations, charging for certain functions. And shortly after, the “change of ownership” occurred where it even adopted the current name “X,” which I consider unpleasant and meaningless. I decided to close the profiles I used there as a company and the personal one.

After my long study of Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and the above mentioned, on September 17, 2023, I entered the Nostr, the decentralised protocol and ecosystem that acts somewhat rudimentary, part of DeSoc’s (Decentralised Social Networks), but covers everything I considered relevant on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for some time. It does not invade privacy and there is no algorithm. In parallel, I continue to familiarise myself with the Telegram app, which I convincingly use in a productive and creative way, without the need to search for WhatsApp. Btw., I invite you to ›take a look at one of my most recent posts on Nostr.‹
